- 1Apply name to the center of the transom (stern), horizontally centered between the outboard edges.
- 2Mirror the same name on both port and starboard sides of the hull, typically forward of midship.
- 3Position the name within the lower third of the hull topside — typically 6–12 inches above the waterline.
- 4For sailboats, name may also appear on the bow on both sides.
Hailing Port Placement
- 1Always placed on the transom (stern), directly below the boat name.
- 2Horizontally centered with the boat name — both should share the same centerline.
- 3Leave 1/2" to 1" of vertical spacing between the bottom of the name and the top of the hailing port text.
- 4Hailing port is traditionally displayed in a smaller point size — typically 50% of the name height.
