Fully compliant with Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) regulations. Marine-grade vinyl built for Gulf Coast heat, UV, and salt — engineered to last 5+ years on Texas waters.
The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) mandates specific format, sizing, and display standards for all registered motorized watercraft in Texas. Here's exactly what you need to know.
All Texas vessels must display the letters 'TX' followed by 4 numbers and a letter suffix — e.g., TX 1234 A. The prefix and suffix must be separated from numerals by a hyphen or space.
Characters must be at least 3 inches (76 mm) in height per TPWD regulations. Larger vessels may require taller characters for visibility from enforcement vessels.
Letters and numbers must be block-style and spaced so they are clearly legible. No script or italic fonts are permitted — characters must be upright and uniform in stroke width.
Numbers must be permanently affixed — painted, branded, or displayed using marine-grade adhesive vinyl. Temporary markers, chalk, or tape do not meet TPWD compliance standards.
Example Valid Format
Block characters · Minimum 3" height · Contrasting color to hull · Displayed on both sides of the forward half of the vessel
TPWD requires registration numbers to be clearly visible against the hull. Beyond compliance, Texas's intense climate demands marine-grade materials that hold up on Gulf Coast, coastal, and inland lake environments.
Numbers must contrast plainly with the hull color. Black numbers on a white or light hull, or white numbers on a dark hull, are the two most common compliant combinations.
Our Texas decals use 3M or Avery Dennison premium cast vinyl — rated for 5–7 years of outdoor marine exposure. The adhesive layer is waterproof and resistant to fuel and oil splatter.
Texas averages 220+ sunny days per year. Our UV-stabilized pigments don't fade or chalk under sustained solar load — critical for Lake Travis, Corpus Christi Bay, and Highland Lakes boaters.
Saltwater environments accelerate adhesive failure. Our Texas-grade decals use a marine laminate over-layer that seals edges against salt spray, humidity, and barnacle scrape during trailering.

Correct placement is as important as correct format. TPWD officers check both during waterway patrols. Whether you're on Lake Conroe, the Galveston Ship Channel, or Padre Island Sound, here's how to do it right.
Registration numbers must be displayed on each side of the bow — the forward half of the vessel. A single-side display is a TPWD citation.
Numbers must be placed above the waterline so they remain visible when the vessel is in the water. Numbers that go below waterline level are not compliant.
Numbers must appear on the forward (bow) half of the vessel's hull, not on the stern, transom, or aft sections. On cabin boats, the cabin side-wall is acceptable.
Numbers may not be placed on or behind equipment, hatches, or areas that obscure their readability. They must be fully legible from 100 feet under normal daylight.
Use isopropyl alcohol (70%+) to wipe down the application area. Remove all wax, salt residue, and grime. For fiberglass hulls, a light scuff with 400-grit sandpaper improves adhesion.
Using a tape measure, find the bow centerline and measure back to place numbers at least 6 inches from the bow tip. Mark guide lines with a china marker or painter's tape.
Spray the hull with a light mist of soapy water. This allows repositioning before final adhesion — critical on curved fiberglass hulls common in Texas bass boats and bay boats.
Use the included squeegee to push out bubbles from center outward. Allow 48 hours before water contact and 72 hours before applying any wax or hull protectant.
🌞 Texas Tip: Apply in the shade, never in direct sunlight above 90°F
High surface temperatures (common in South Texas summers) cause adhesive to activate too quickly, creating bubbles and poor edge adhesion. Early morning installation gives you the best results year-round.

"I fish the Galveston Bay system year-round — salt, sun, and humidity are brutal on decals. These TX numbers are still perfect after 18 months. No edge lifting, no fading. TPWD officer complimented how clearly readable they were during a routine check."
Jake Hoffmann
Galveston, TX — Gulf Coast
"After two sets of decals from the local marine shop peeled in under a year from the South Texas sun, a friend recommended this place. Night and day difference. My bay boat looks sharp and the numbers are totally compliant. The sizing guide made everything easy."
Marcy Delgado
Corpus Christi, TX — Coastal Bend
"Lake Travis gets seriously hot in July. My last set of numbers bubbled off the hull during a summer weekend. Ordered the marine-grade set here and used the wet-application method they recommend. Zero bubbles, and they've survived two full Texas summers without issue."
Travis Beaumont
Lake Travis, TX — Inland
"I work a commercial flats skiff in the Aransas Pass area. Salt marsh water is particularly harsh — I needed something that could handle it. These decals have been on my hull for 2 seasons now and I've had zero TPWD compliance issues. Will be ordering for my second skiff next month."
Donna Fay Trevino
